We humbly appreciate your support and contributions no matter how small. Your donation will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions for those who we serve. Your generous support will fund our mission and charities.
With Many Towns and Communities completely damaged by Hurricane Melissa, your assistance is needed now more than ever. Homes, Churches, Schools, and family's lives completely uprooted leaving behind destruction and devastation.
The Damages Left Behind
Hurricane Melissa has swept across our beloved island of Jamaica and has left a trail of destruction — homes damaged, communities displaced, and livelihoods shattered. In the aftermath, the Jamaica Independence Foundation Inc. (JIFI~NYC) is responding in collaboration with other reputable organizations swiftly with compassion and purpose through our Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to restore dignity, provide relief, and rebuild hope for families hardest hit by the storm.
We Hope To Play An Impactful Role
To assist those shelters with families who have been displaced by the hurricane and whose buildings are destroyed and to reach the women and children who are in need of everyday care and items to assist them with recovery from the storm. We call on our community to unite, and we are thankful for the incredible generosity of our supporters, partners, and volunteers.
Our next steps are to collect as much as we possibly can to deliver:
Looking Ahead
Recovery doesn’t end when the storm passes. The Jamaica Independence Foundation Inc. (JIFI~NYC) remains committed to long-term rebuilding, disaster preparedness, and community empowerment --ensuring that Jamaica stands stronger and more united in the face of future challenges.
Because when we come together, we don’t just rebuild homes — we rebuild hope and lives.

Our goal is to raise both monetary and in-kind donations, and to identify families in Westmoreland, Hanover, and parts of St. James (Montego Bay) Jamaica who have been most affected by the hurricane. Through a voucher system, we will connect these families directly with local merchants such as hardware stores and supermarkets so they can access food and other essential items to meet their immediate needs. In our first Phase, approved in-kind donations will be shipped to be distributed to families in these parishes. With continued donor support we hope to expand our outreach to other parishes such as Trelawny, Clarendon and St. Elizabeth.
